Items to be deleted

Hi All, I have HQ and 10 stores. We also have the common scenario of wanting to delete items to keep the database clean and small(ish). For example commonly our database has 20000 items in it with 2004, 2005,

2006 and now 2007 stock items. We really have no need to keep 2003, 2004, 2005 items in it. I want to delete them from the HQ and Store databases.

What should I consider? How would I do it and at both store/HQ level, remove old journals, transactions, PO's, etc....

We keep extensive true database backups at store and HQ that are totally restoreable onto my test DB server in case we need to get back to it for review.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

If you delete items with sales activity you also lose the customer purchase histories for those items. 2003 model product is probably something you'll want to retain in customer records for quite some time. 20,000 items on file should not be a problem with RMS.

I suggest you take a spin with our DRS Tools utility that marks items as Inactive in batch mode. This utility can be run against the HQ database to quickly mark all qualifying items as Inactive. Then run a worksheet 250 to send the Inactive changes to the stores.

Our RMS Toolkit 30 day trial includes DRS Tools. Any changes you make to your data would be retained whether you decide to purchase the Toolkit or not. Also included in the Toolkit trial is over 100 reports, templates, and product signage that are yours to keep just for trying our RMS add-in suite.

The RMS Toolkit works with both HQ and Store Operations POS and Manager. To fully deploy all the features you will need to install the Toolkit at the store locations first, then HQ. You can also request HQ Bridge during your trial to synchronize special orders between locations and automate worksheet

250s for all new item adds.

Our trial downloads are available at the link below. For more information contact your RMS reseller.
