Kit Item Return

Customer buys product in large quantities and puts them in kits to sell. So I created an inventory item called Product which we put on POs and track inventory on. I created Kit Items and added the Product to them with quantities. The kits are put together as needed...meaning they are not in Kits on the shelf.

It works great and tracking inventory is easy.....when I return a kit item. It doesnt replenish the Product....it replenioshes the Kit.....The kit should always be 0 on hand and the Product should be the one to deplete and replenish.

Any idea on how to make the return work correctly?

Consider changing your kits to assembly items. The groups if items can still be sold under one SKU, but each item's inventory will be handled individually. Originally I found it easier to setup kits, but we recently changed them over to assembly items . We ran into problems doing inventory because layaway items do not show as committed (individually), only the kit shows committed. The online help describes the differences between kits and assemblies.

Ok imagine this scenario...

I buy pencils by the thousands and create a Standard Item called "Pencil" with an on hand quantity of 1000.

I create a Kit item called "Dozen Pencils" for $12.00 in the Kit properties I add "Pencil" quantity 12. But I don't build the kits because the Kits aren't physically built until the customer buys. I don't care how many "Dozen Pencils" I have in stock I only care how many "Pencils" I have in stock. When I do a sale of "Dozen Pencils" kit item it deducts from inventory 12 "Pencils". When I do a return shouldn't it replenish 12 Pencils? Instead it replenishes 1 "Dozen Pencils" - The Kit items should always be 0 on hand.

Does this make sense?

That's how kits work. I am pretty sure you can go into the kit item and tell it to un-build the kit if you want, but it would have to be done manually for every return.

Aside from what I told you about changing your 'dozen' to an assembly item (which should work out to do what you need), there is also Lot Matrix items, which I am not real familiar with myself, but it is made for items that are sold in different 'lots' like soda by the can, 6 pack or case.

you should break out the kit item manually every return transaction maybe someone can check them regularly.

but did you face a problem with kit cost? I have a problem about the kit cost when it sold it show zero cost, Its supposed that kit item update its cost from its component cost according to quantity of each component but after upgrading to HQ V2.000214 automatically cost calculation stopped and I've been told that this problem will be fixed next Service Pack.

So I must build every kit item once at all the stores to update kit item cost from component cost.

Does this make sense?

Go to the kit item properties | click on the Kit tab | Click Breakout button
