Assambled item or kit sales

KIT item is an item type and you can easily see that kit item being sold. Assembly Item is a not an item type it is just a view. When you type in an assembly code you sell each component and you cannot distinguish if this component is part of an assembly or it was sold indevidually.

Another option is to use the assembly item but then add a non-inventory "tracking" item (price = 0.00) to the assembly. That way you can run a report on how many of the "tracking" items were sold which will tell you how many of those assemblies were sold. We use this for gift baskets for example.

Assemblies may be a better option if you want the sales of the individual component items to be shown within their dept/catg versus a kit where all items in the kit are sold under the a single dept/catg. And with kits you'll need to build and break them out whereas assemblies are just sold "on the fly".
