Can't figure out how to delete old journals. I go into View and the list comes up but when I press "delete" nothing happens. Anyone know what I'm missing?

Can't figure out how to delete old journals. I go into View and the list comes up but when I press "delete" nothing happens. Anyone know what I'm missing?
from administrator.. with sql statement.
example: DELETE FROM Journal WHERE condition ...
