Physical Inventory data collector

We are currently getting ready to do a physical inventory, and unfortuneatly we are trying to start with a clean slate on inventory. My question is which portable data collectors are compatible with RMS, and would require the fewest ways of importing the data.

We did an inventory six months ago, but some items are not in inventory and others supposedly there but not. While count sheets help eliminate the items that aren't in stock, the items that exist that aren't listed seem to get overlooked.

Excuse my ignorance on this, I just recently came on board with this retail shop, and I'm still learning the system. The ones responsible for the IT were let go abruptly. Thanks for any help ahead of time.

Brian, I think any data collector that can output to to a comma-delimited ascii text file would work. We use the Percon PT2000 Topgun, which is a batch data collector. Some in the group have recommended the Metrologic Scanpal, which is pretty inexpensive relative to others, however my experience is that it is difficult to scan a barcode, particularly in a store with bright florescent lighting, hard to get adequate contrast for the scanner.

Thank you to all, that helped immensely. The more I read, to more it becomes clear on importing .csv file or what ever format works. Again thank you all for your time.

Tony,

What program do you use on your symbol 1500 to collect the data. I have an old one laying around and that would be a great application for it.

Thanks in advance.
