POS 2009 Multi-Store

Are there any public updates as to when POS 2009 will be enhanced for multi-store use?

No, the POS product was originally a completely separate codebase from RMS. Although 2009 has been a rewrite with a lot of RMS functionality on the back end, the interface is far more intuitive and friendly.

I can't believe that RMS 2.0 is seen as anything but a stopgap solution. It was barely usable by my staff, whereas POS 2.0 and now POS 2009 are easily understood.

Richards right, there are no plans for a multi-store version of POS2009. It is intended as a simplified stripped down version of RMS for single stores that just really want a simple register with inventory control. There are many add-ons to it that extend it's usability, but don't hold your breath waiting for MS to add any of them to it out of the box. It's just not going to happen. The next step for MS in the POS front is a program called AX. No one really knows for sure what they're up to, but for now, anyone that needs more functionality out of the box will need to purchase RMS, not POS2009, that is what MS intended. For now, they have announced they have a 5 year plan for RMS, including a major feature pack due out late this year(we'll see), which is supposed to improve the POS UI, among other things. As far as RMS being a stop gap solution, I really am not sure what you mean by that. I've been using RMS, and before that it's predecessor, Qucksell Commerce, for over 10 years. I have a couple of add-ons for customer loyalty and reverse phone# lookup, but other than that it does everything I need it to, including handling gift cards, on it's own ,which is a huge money saver. The POS portion of RMS is very user friendly if you set it up properly, and using a touch screen monitor makes it even easier. That along with some custom buttons and I can't think how it could be any easier for the cashier. I know the UI of POS2009 looks better, but that's just eye candy. It's the features that I care about.
