Returns on Z doesn't match Daily Sales

Hi, Would anyone have an explanation as to why a returns figure on a Z-Report doesn't match the Returns on a Detailed Daily Sales Report? Sorted by Reason Code, where a Reason Code is required to return an item.

Thanks.

Check the Z report starting and ending date and time.

The Detailed Daily Sales Report, reports by date. The Z Report reports all transactions since the last Z report.

Tara -

It is not your dates. The "Returns" line on the Z Report indicates total transaction sums if the transaction is a return. This is a little confusing - let's see if I can properly explain:

Sale 1: Return Item A = ($2.00) Return Item B = ($7.00) Sell Item C = $8.00 Total Tendered = ($1.00

Sale 2: Return Item A = ($2.00) Sell Item C = $8.00 Total Tendered = $6.00

Sale 3: Return Item A = ($2.00) Return Item B = ($7.00) Total Tendered = ($9.00)

If you were reading your Z Report against the above first 2 sales only: Sales = $6.00 Returns = ($1.00)

If you were reading your Z report against all above transactions: Sales = $6.00 Returns = (10.00)

NOTE: All of this is without tax as applied. The Z Report Sales and Returns does not calculate tax in these line items.

Here is exactly where you are getting stuck. You have transactions with Sales and Returns (exchanges if you will) but the Transaction Total is in a positive amount - thus logged as a part of the 'Sales' line item of the Z Report. To properly show this - look only at Sale #2 above.

Let's say you were going to run your Z Report against only Sale 2 - It would read as follows: Sales = $6.00 Returns = $0.00

This is all because the total tendered is what is reported against. However, the report you are trying to pair off with this does not really read as expected because it rips the returns out of the transaction *as mentioned sorted based on Return RC*.

Does this make sense - or is this just another Friday rambling of mine?
