RMS Keeps OPOS Printers longer than it Needs To

May 22, 2007 6 Replies

Hi,

*Brief Description* RMS seems to keep an OPOS printer open after the first receipt has been printed. The printer will be closed when the POS is closed.

This means that no other application can access the printer.

The option of RMS closing the printer after each receipt has been printed would be useful.

*Further Information* You can verify this by running a check health on the printer while RMS is running, after a receipt has been printed. The check health will fail, but RMS does not actually need the printer at this point.

If you close the POS, and rerun the check health, it will pass.

This behaviour interferes with some EFTPOS terminals and a couple of other applications, which work fine alongside RMS when using Windows drivers.

If a cash drawer is installed, RMS will seize the printer the moment the POS is started.

Cheers

Arlo,

In Store Manager - Configuration - Options - pos options there is a flag to share OPOS printer with other applications. This is meant to release the printer immediately after each sale. I have not used it myself but i believe it is there for the to sort the problems you have mentioned.

Give it a go if you haven't already

Using EPSON TMT88IIP printer with a cash drawer attached to the printer. Have switched on the option to share the POS printer with other applications. We have an application which needs to print to the receipt printer. But, as soon as a sale is made in RMS, RMS POS prints the receipt, opens the cash drawer but does not release it after the completion of the transaction.

As a result of this, the printer is also available to other application. Even the health check from EPSON's OPOS ADK throws the same error. I have also tried the Microsoft XP SP2 embedded (POS for .NET 1.1), still no luck.

Is there any work around to this problem? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
