Setting Security in RMS

A lot of my clients ask me how to do Security in RMS, so I thought it might be useful to everyone. If you want the screenshots, shoot me an email and I'll send you the original email with them. Follow these directions exactly and soon you will be an RMS security expert.

Security at the POS

  1. Create theoretical groups for security, group 1, group 2, etc.
  2. These groups will be for managers, accountants, supervisors, cashiers, etc.
  3. You can assign the group to the user templates you already have
  4. go to the POS and click on the square in the lower left corner, giving you a lock icon (see pic security 1 attached)
  5. Click on ctrl & S, you will see a grid on the screen (see security 2)
  6. Click on any object and a grid will appear (see security 3)
  7. Choose which groups are allowed to access this item (use a button, view a column, etc.)
  8. Click ok.
  9. If you need to go deeper, click ctrl-s again to go back to the regular screen.
  10. You can go deeper than this, of course.
  11. Say you don?t want the cashier to be able to accidentally delete an item.
  12. Click or press F2 (Lookup) and then press ctrl-S
  13. This gives you a security grid for the Items Panel (see Security 4)
  14. You can highlight (click on) the delete button and you will get the security panel again (see Security 5)
  15. Choose your groups and hit ok.
  16. You can repeat the procedure for every section of the POS screen.
  17. When you are finished, click on the lock in the lower left corner to exit the security mode.
  18. Now you can go to the Store Ops Manager, and assign each user (or template) to the proper security level.
  19. Open the user and assign the security level (see Security 6).
  20. Hit ok to save the change!

Security at the Store Ops Manager

  1. Open the Store Ops Manager.
  2. Click on File, Security, Set Security (see Security 7)
  3. You will get the ?You are now in security mode? panel, click ok
  4. The procedure is now the same.
  5. To not allow a user to view Item costs, you will use a multi-level drill down and the enter security mode
  6. Open the Item editor, and choose any item
  7. Press the ctrl & S keys to enter security mode.
  8. Click on the item cost box.
  9. You will get a security panel as usual.
  10. Notice you can choose to either not be able to read to cost, or not be able to change it (or both)
  11. Choose you security levels (See Security 8)
  12. Click ok.
  13. To close the Security, press ctrl-s again.
  14. Don?t forget to exit Security mode (File, Security, Set Security)

Well there you go.
