One touch key for tendering in RMS

I have a client who wants to have faster tendering at the POS. In RMS, you have to select tender (f12) and enter the payment in the tender field. My client wants a one touch key (cash for example) that when they press it, it will tender the sale. They want to remove the steps and have one touch to complete the transaction. Can we do this in RMS? Can we create a custom button for cash, etc?

Any other suggestions? Thanks- Andrea

Make sure that Cash is the first Tender type. Create a Macro that does this:

  1. Ctrl-F3 to create Macro
  2. Press 'F12'
  3. Press '+' on Numeric Key Pad. --Depending on the version of RMS in Store Ops Manager you have the option of Automatically closing the Change window. If thats the case the finish the Macro, otherwise continue below--
  4. Press 'Enter' to close change screen.
  5. Ctrl-F3 to Save Macro

They can now press Alt-F1 to tender out the transaction as Cash.

Forgot to mention Terrible Tom has posted a dll that allows you to create a custom button that calls one of the function keys (i.e. Alt-F1)

Also, see the online help and Knowledge base regarding "Scan Code". This is really intended to be used with a Programmable Keyboard rather than a Macro, but you may be able to incorporate it...

Try pressing the + key...should do the trick, it's one key and it's simple...also instead of the f12 they can press enter on the keypad and have the tender screen pull up, then press the + key and in two steps they have completed a transaction.

Perhaps MS should save 2 more function keys like F1 and F4 (as in F12 for tender) four more important functions like: F1--cash tender and F4--Credit card tender. Two other POS systems I know have that, very convenient.

Also, on the tender box, the total purchase should appear in the tender box as default unless the cashier needs to change the amount. This saves time and mistakes when it comes to credit card / voucher transaction (Unless I didn't know how to set this default yet)

Kay,

RMS has 24 extra keys - Alt+F1 thru F12 and Alt+Ctrl+F1 thru F12. If that's not enough, try

for another 16 keys or if more are needed, up to 58, search the website. Up or down arrow to the proper tender box and press the + key on the number pad. That tells RMS that you are tendering the full amount for that specific tender.

If you don't like having to hit the up or down arrows, look up scan codes, within tender types in Help

Agreed, Jeff, but it's still two keys, not one. The most used fuction keys for a retail business, after the scanner, are "cash tender" and "credit card tender". They should be F1 and F4, in my opinion, separated by F3 for check or something to avoid being too close to each other.

Btw, Ctl F4, the "returned" key seldom work unless you press them "exactly" at the same time; Otherwise, you have to click to c> Kay,

Oh, and thanks for the tips on the arrow and + keys. I haven't had time to read all the books and the web help pages!...

Kay,

I don't remember right now, but I think you can set them up exactly like you want. As I described before, go to Database | Tender Types | go into a Tender and the press F1 Help screen, look at the Scan Codes section. How to program a single key for each tender type.

Hold the Ctrl, or for that matter, the Alt, the Shift, etc. keys down while hitting the other key.

Yes, you can control the Delete button function through security. While in POS, click on the lower of the two blank buttons, a lock should be displayed. F7 and go to the Customer screen. Press Ctrl+S, the buttons on the right will have blue boxes surrounding them. Click on the Delete button, check the security level that you want to use. Do a Ctrl+S again, escape back to the POS screen and click on the lock again.

Now set each cashier to that Security level you just set and the Delete button will be grayed out for them.

You could also do it from Manager. File | Security | and then repeat the above process. Database | Customer | Ctrl+S...
