(Supervisor) Override

We need to have an option in RMS POS to perform a (manager or supervisor) override when the currently logged in cashier doesn't have permission for the current action, or at the very least have an option that can be set to allow/disallow overrides.

This would only give the currently logged in cashier permission to perform the manager approved action/transaction without having to go through the tedious process of cashier logging out, manager logging in, manager performing desired action, manager logging out, and finally cashier logging back in to complete the transaction.

Glenn,

Thanks for your response, but this is exactly what I would like to avoid and that's why I made the suggestion. I just need to have managers be able to do an override WITHOUT having to go through all these steps. After all I just want them to approve an action that the cashiers can't perform by themselves.

Let say a cashier wants to discount an item for whatever reason (coupon, damaged, volume discount, etc) but they are not authorized to do so, it would be much faster/easier/cleaner if they can "handle" the transaction, but won't be able to commit till a manger approves the (trans)action by enter his/her credentials for approval but not actually log in. Just like it's done in other POS systems. In other POSs a windows usually pops up saying (This transaction requires a manager's authorization please enter a managers username/password to continue or hit cancel to quit).

Craig, thanks for your reply, but I think you misunderstood me. This was, what I believe to be, a valid product suggestion and not a complaint or a statement that other POS systems are better than RMS. With any of my suggestions that change RMS functionality or behavior I always suggest MS to have a "toggle switch" available so the end users can at their discretion turn this feature or enhancement on or off.

The biggest complaint that I have about RMS is that Microsoft is very slow in forthcoming with program updates, hot fixes, and that there is no RMS "Roadmap" or news available. Besides the relatively minor updates that they have released over the last 3 or 4 years it almost seems to be a "dead" product. I also wished they had some type of publicly available list of known issues and workarounds available. Besides this I think that RMS is a great product and was way ahead of its competition when it was first released, but is starting to loose it's edge. I also don't understand why they released MS POS, instead of just having a RMS Pro and a RMS Standard/Light version so they could focus their resources on 1 product instead of 2.

In regards to "Even in a busy environment it's going to take longer to get the manager to the POS than it will to actually make the authorization.", I agree with you on that, but while the cashier is waiting for the manager they could actually go ahead and have the change ready to be authorized instead of just waiting around.

Alex,

I agree with your view and have voted for the suggestion. The first time I ran into the log in - log out, I thought a popup override box for a manager code would be an improvement. That is what I would have expected.

We are not knocking the product - just suggesting improvements. After all - how much time did the people that write the prgrams spend at the retail front lines?

I agree with you the product needs to be improved, but I would like them to focus on major improvements to work flow issues, such as with layaways, work orders, matrixes, PO receiving, etc. not waste their time on little things that already have a function built in. If there wasn't already a way to have a manager override I would vote for this also, but since we can already do it I would rather see them concentrate on bigger issues. Craig

I agree but at this point any improvements, regardless how small, are better then nothing at all. We can't even get a quick hot fix that will fix the new matrix issues after several months... (I'm referring to the on hand quantity for new matrix items defaulting to 1 instead of 0 and not "copying" the barcode type from the matrix general screen to the individual matrix items).

Maybe it's better to receive regular or more frequent small enhancement opposed to never getting any big enhancements at all!
