Unable to log into database

We are using the latest version of RMS 1.3 on windows xp pro. However, using the administrator module to connect to via SQL authentication (server is (local) ), does not work. Loging via windows authentication does work. We can create a new database name "homes" from the sql backup while logged into the windows authentication. And we can see "homes" as a database name on the on the "connect to server" screen. However, using the SQL authentication, always fails. We tried with user sa and password blank, but to no avail (also failed for any other user name and password combinations). We get the following message : Error #-2147217843 Login failed for user 'sa'. (Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server) (SQL State: 42000) (NativeError: 18456)

Any ideas ? Is it possible that the windows xp pro needs to be updated to the latest service release ? Also, what exactly should be chosen as user and password at time of original installation ? Thanks,

You should always login with SQL Authentication. Also the user name is 'sa' The password is what you gave as the password for the SQL Server during installation.

We tried all the different combinations, and still no go. Here are some questions:

1) Do you need to be on a specific release patch on windows xp pro ? 2) Is there a way to manually add a user to the SQL server once it is installed ? Thanks.

1) No 2) see the thread regarding changing the sa password from last week. Jeff posted a link to a KB article with instructions. Or, you could just consult SQL Server Books on-line on MSDN.Microsoft.com
