Unable to Connect to database

Nov 23, 2005 2 Replies

I'm getting this error when my second register trys to connect to the server When I test the connection under the store adminstrator I get the following response

Error #2147467259 [DBNETLIB]{ConnectionOpen(PreloginHandshake()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.(Source:Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server) (SQL State: 08001) (NativeError: 11) No Help Files available

I have on both registers two users one is computer admin the other Limited (same names & passwords). Only if I login as admin on the register that is the server (register 1) I can connect from the other register (regardless of the user logged in on register 2). Register 1 is running XP Pro SP2, register

2 is running XP Home SP2. I am using in the administrator the IP not the server name. Any ideas?

Thanks for your helps in advance

Victor,

Sounds like a firewall issue. If using the Windows firewall and you are on support with M$, click on the following link on how to setup the Windows Firewall and RMS

Otherwise, try turning off any firewall that you have and try again.

First thing to do is to disable Windows firewall and any third party firewalls (Symantec, McAfee, etc...) on both systems and try again. This is a pretty stange scenario, it sounds like you have a User based firewall rule - I don't think you can do that with Windows firewall, but some of the third parties may have it...
