Can't connect to HQ with HQ Manager

Mar 31, 2007 9 Replies

I have a strange problem on one PC on my network. I have an HQ server that can be accessed via HQ Manager on various PCs on the network without issue. However, there is one PC that (all of a sudden) can't access it. It can ping the IP address of the HQ server. I am using the IP address in HQ admin configuration - the same setup as all of the other PCs on the network.

Any ideas?

Do you have TCP/IP, named pipes enabled in Client Network Utility?

Yes. Everything in the CNU is set up identical to other PCs that are working properly.

No Windows Firewall is enabled on any of my networked computers. Confirmed.

This is bizarre. I am pulling my hair out!

The specific error in HQ Admin when I try to test the connection is:

Error #-2147467259 [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. (Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server) (SQL State: 08001) (NativeError: 17) No help file available

I suspect it's going to come back again... Since you are using the IP Address of the sql server as the Server Name, LMHOSTS isn't doing anything for you. LMHOSTS just maps a 'friendly name' to an IP Address so that you can find the system by name instead of number.

That is what I thought. That's why I don't understand why it started working again.

Anyway, it's working now, and I can't spend any more time on it... Strange.
