Contractor Edition 2004

We have been using Contracotor Edition 2004 for ages and ages. It works just fine, and we have no need to upgrade except... We only have one client license. This means we can only connect to the database from one computer at a time. In the past it was no big deal as all our accounting was done from one room. Recently we moved into a bigger facility with a warehouse and 3 room office. Its a bit of a pain to yell up front, "Hey Log off Quickbooks," now, from the back of the warehouse.

In addition we are looking at some VPN applications. I was looking at picking up a couple extra client licenses, but I see Intuit no longer offers support for 2004 Contractor Edition.

What the heck I figured. I'll just upgrade. Then I see they seem to no longer offer a contractor edition. What is the deal. Will my contractor edition database transfer to a new version of quick books or not? What about all the templates I have built up?

Anyway...

Take a look here:

The contractor edition is part of the Premier version.

You might check with Gemini Computers to see if they can get you another copy of 2004:

Thanks. I found that eventually.

Holy cow. Its the same price to just buy a 2008 version (if they even had the 2004 ersion which they last as out of stock.) Thanks again for the help.

P.S. Sam's Club listed the Premier Contractor 2008 for 357. That is the cheapest I have found.

Sigh.... I *WAS* going to suggest the 5 user version, which *USED* to be slightly under the cost of 3 separate licenses.

But, according to the Intuit FAQ's "Q: Where is Pro 5 User Edition and Premier 5 User Edition? A: We have learned that most multi-user customers have 3 or fewer employees working on QuickBooks, so we introduced Pro 3 User in 2007 and are offering Premier 3 User for 2008. Each product has all the features of the 5 User Edition, but, instead, will now allow 3 users to work on your QuickBooks program at the same time. If you need additional users (up to 5 total), you can purchase additional licenses."

Translated "Intuit has increased the price for the 5 user copy by forty percent"
