Exchange rate and imports

With the SDK you can import most transactions in a foreign currency.

What type of transactions do you need to import (invoices, bills, checks or ??) and where are they coming from?

I've just taken a look at the SDK and it looks very nice and is similiar to QODBC (the other way round probably) if I use the QBFC4 interface. What I am trying to do is two things:

1. Enter a journal entry between an account in USD and an account in EUR (the home currency)
2. Enter a check in USD (from a USD account) but with the expense account in the home currency of EUR of course

It looks as though this should be straightforward although I did see something on the IDN forums that suggested there was a problem with the journal entry above that is being resolved in the 2005 Canadian edition (I am using the 2005 UK edition). I couldn't find any samples in the SDK using exchange rates though so I suspect I have some playing to do unless you can point me along the road of how to set up the JournalEntryAdd object with an exchange rate.

Journal entries have an Exchange Rate on them but it appears to apply to the JE in total and not to each line. I don't have access to QB CA right now so I can't try to post an entry like this. Maybe some one else can chime in. Would this JE be to move funds from one bank account to another, adjust A/R or ??

Checks have an Exchage Rate on them so this should work OK.

You probably are, but case your not, use the Canadian documentation. The US version doesn't have multi-currency.

He said he's using the UK version, which is also multicurrency.

I'm trying to set up a startup equity account to match the starting balances I am going to enter for my bank accounts. I'm not so worried about having to import these though as it is only a handful of transactions and not worth the pain.

I'm using the UK documentation so it should be okay. Nearly all the data will be checks and they are coming from an Access database.

I'm getting a bit closer to the source of the problem though as it seems the SDK doesn't work with the UK version of QB. Or to be a bit more precise the QBFC component doesn't and the qbXML isn't guaranteed to work but may. Intuit are apparently considering making the UK product a 'full' part of the SDK but haven't done so yet.

As QBFC won't work with the UK product (QBFC won't accept the country code for the UK and QB won't accept the US or CA country codes) I'll probably need to get down to the qbXML level. Can't say I'm looking forward to it. Again if anyone knows of a product that will allow importing multicurrency transactions in to QB UK then I would be a very happy man.

Yes but there isn't any UK SDK documentation. There is a UK SDK.

..and just to close this thread. In the end I managed to get QODBC to import transactions in multicurrency although still not the general ledger (but I can live with that). With cheques my problem had been that the payee has to use the same currency as the account otherwise you are not allowed to specify an exchange rate. I think this is a QB thing rather than a QODBC thing.
