How to edit TYPE in register?

I entered an electronic transfer into the checking account from the credit card processing company. QB put it in under "TYPE" as a check. I can't find a way to edit the type to designate that it was an electronic transfer and not a check that was deposited. How do you edit the TYPE column?

Did you put the amount in the correct column? If you entered the transfer amount in the deposit column QB would not have used CHK for type. If you made an error then you'll have to void the transaction and redo it as there's no way to turn a CHK into a DEP.

QB assigns the following types:

Entering a payment transaction results in CHK Entering a deposit transaction results in DEP Entering a Transfer Funds transaction results in TRANSFR

So the trick is to find where in QB to initiate a transfer, which is obviously not something done from the register. I do most of my transactions from the register and journal because I haven't yet learned where to do it in other places within QB. IN MS-Money for Business I could manually do everything from the registers but QB doesn't seem to like the user having control over manual entry into registers and journal.

You don't have to use Transfer Funds (which is under the Banking menu). Just because the transaction was a debit/transfer doesn't mean QB must specify it as such. I only use Transfer Funds when transferring money between company bank accounts. Everything else is listed as a CHK. I know what wasn't actually a paper check because it doesn't have a check number listed. Some people like to type in Debit or some other identifier in place of a check number.

OK, thanks, I deleted the transaction and re-entered it as a transfer. Been using QB about a month and already comfortable with most of it. Overall, it's so much better than Mickeysoft Money, just does some things a little differently which requires some adapting. For my personal finances, I've always used Quicken and that permits the entering of the type in the register so I had wrongly assumed QB would follow the same convention.

I've attempted to enter a transfer when paying a vendor electronically, but QB will only display limited types of accounts from the Transfer menu, none of which are expense accounts. QB seems to want to call every payment a check even if no physical check was ever written. I've gotten around this by using a journal entry and in the comments field typing in "electronic payment" so I won't go looking for a check at some time in the future. At least the type of payment indicates it's a journal entry which is more accurate than indicating a non-existent check. Odd that QB in this day and age doesn't figure that a bill might be paid electronically.

Quickbooks isn't Quicken. It is a check. Just put EFT into the check number field so you know.

So simple, hadn't thought of that.

Sorry I was so unclear as that's exactly what I was telling you in my two previous posts.

Sometimes I tend to get mired down in the complexities of software looking for a difficult fix while overlooking the obvious. Thanks for bringing me back down to earth. Bob
