I have looked at

But it does not give an an IIF example of a payroll entry.

Can anyone direct me to an example?

I believe you cannot import payroll entries via IIF. So that is why no example.

Payroll transactions and Payroll Items are guarded quite vigorously by Intuit in QB. Payroll subscriptions are a huge profit center, and allowing full import and export would open up competition from 3rd parties.

From my experience, here is the most you can do with Payroll.

IIF:

- Employee information can be exported and imported.

- Export of Payroll Items was dropped in version 2001.

- It's possible Payroll Items can still be imported, but I haven't verified it.

- Never has been any payroll transaction import or export.

Report Export:

- Employee Withholding report can be exported.

- Payroll Item Listing report can be exported.

- Payroll Transaction reports can be exported.

SDK (QB's XML based API):

- Restrictions on read-write access to payroll related fields in Employee records.

- Very limited read-write access to Payroll Items.

- No access to payroll transactions for import or export.

- Can export some Payroll Transaction reports with restrictions.

Datablox OfficeQ: (Works with QB2005 and earlier. They are releasing a new version to support the new QB 2006 database, but I believe it will operation under the restrictions imposed by the SDK.)

- Full Employee, Payroll Item and Payroll transaction export from the QB data file.

- No import capability.

To sum up -- while there are many ways to get payroll related data OUT of QB, there continues to be no way to push it all INTO QB.

Hmm Is there a way to see or alter the tax tables?
