Merge them.
But then they will be all together in the customer center again - both active and inactive. I want to know if I can set something so that if a customer I marked inactive becomes active, can it stop me from entering that person as a new customer...
can you go into "edit customer" and uncheck the inactive box?
yes I can uncheck the box however I want to try to set QB so that everytime I have a new customer it will see if that customer is in the list but inactive and I do not want to show all the accounts constantly.
"Gil Faver"
... QB has no option to do that automagically...
Not a bad enhancement request; not sure if there are sufficient hooks in the current API that an addin could be written to do it except it would still only be semi-automatic at best.

oh, I get it. I think I saw that yesterday, but when I reread your post I read too fast . . .
That feature has always been around. The program will not allow you to add the same customer more than once, even if it is currently inactive. Are you perhaps looking for a sounds like feature that warns you that you are adding a new customer that sounds like one already in the database but only differs by a few letters or a comma or period?
If you type their name exactly the same you get a warning that it already exists.
Well - perhaps a sound might help!
