I'm a user and sometimes contributor (although I have much to learn)... I found Allan's replies sometimes acerbic, sometimes irritating, and even sometimes very useful. It appears he hasn't contributed here in over a month. Has he gone or changed his alias or...??
You seem to be doing very well.. It's strange that Allan's very last post was on 3/15/08 at 10:15AM, and your very first post was to the same thread 43 minutes later. Mere coincidence, no doubt. Too bad, as I often learned something from Allen, after I got past the 'chaff'. Since he's not here, and you are, I guess you'll have to try harder to fill in.
One way to test the theory is to see how long QBFanBoy (H. Laport) keeps this thread going, in the style of Allan Martin.
In addition to the pattern seen here, there was a similar cessation of posts from Allan Martin and starting of posts from Haskel Laport in the misc.taxes.moderated group right around mid-March. Interestingly, this was shortly after the moderator of m.t.m. posted a message asking Allan Martin to contact him from a valid e-mail address (the badboy.com domain, although registered to a Jeanne Martin in San Diego, probably never had any connection to the e-mail that Allan Martin used in his last incarnation, just like another e-mail address he used in the past, cpa.com).
Having spent a good deal of time in years past over at unmoderated groups for Oracle software, I am a "fan boy" of contributors who have something valuable to offer, even if they do it in a way that offends some others, especially newbies who don't know what to expect. The groups tend to be self-policing, as this one is, so I think the good that Allan Martin did outweighed any possible harm, especially since no one had to pay anything to get his advice.
When asked to prove Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible, a rabbi intoned: "If Moses did NOT write the Torah, then someone else must have, who, conincidentaly was also named Moses."
