QB08/09: Not able to reconcile with a discrepency

In earlier versions of Quickbooks when I had a discrepency with a reconciliation I was able to enter an adjustment so I could reconcile and carry on.

Today I have a $76 discrepency because an amount was not included in last month's reconciliation and rather than leave it as an uncleared transaction I would like to enter it this month and get rid of it.

However, even though QB's help files say that I can click on the "adjustment" option, this does not appear.

Another oddity is that if I click on "modify" I get the same window telling me to go and fix the discrepency myself or leave. There is nowhere for me to enter interest or back charges.

Here's a screenshot of what I get:

I'd be grateful if someone could help me with this. I need to get my tax paid by tomorrow morning and it's a public holiday here so the Quicken helpdesk is closed.

Thanks in advance, Jo

In the interest of time & energy I would hit "leave" and enter the $76 properly to complete the reconciliation. Then I would call Quicken and report the error.

You are using 2008-09 in Australia aren't you?

If so, can you press F2 and note the release of the software you have. You may see R3P, R6P, R7P at the end of a line near the top of the pop up screen. Can you reply with this information and the version (Premier, Pro, etc).

I have just tested your error in R8P which is about to be released (October 30) with a large number of fixes in it. The initial release will be to Reckon Accredited Partners for full uninstall/reinstall activity with clients, and it is expected that a patch (similar to previous tax scale patches) will be released in late November.

I think this issue was fixed in R7P, but it may have been a problem in the earlier releases.

Anyway, if you post the details I will be able to help you understand what is happening.

Hi Bob, thanks for replying. I'm in New Zealand, but yeah, near enough :)

Am using Quickbooks Plus 2008-09 Release R3.

That release in Australia is now succeeded by R8P which has resolved a myriad of issues. I think the NZ patch to succeed your release was R7P which introduced multi-currency to Pro and above. This release also had a number of problems. We are about to have the fix of all fixes - R8P.

You should check with Quicken New Zealand (details

re any patches that they will be releasing. I could find no downloads on their website for 2008-09, so it might mean that they are waiting for the latest one we are getting. I can say that my later releases don't have the problem that you originally posted.

Good luck

Thanks Bob, I am still waiting for their reply. I have also asked, and am awaiting a reply to, this latest issue.

I have also been experiencing an error with Quickbooks Timer which I installed from the QB 08 09 disk. When I start a job for a client and commence timing it's fine and when I stop the time passed displays correctly. But when I then resume the job I get multiple instances of the job open again and again and my inital timing data has disappeared.

Instead I end up with the result shown in the attached screen shot. And when I view my timer report, it's just those multiple blocks of

23.59 that are there - so all my billable hours have disappeared for today and Monday.

Here's the screenshot:

Any thoughts on how to get timer working?

Sorry, I have not seen the issue and I searched the Quicken Australia knowledge browser. You might find it useful for future issues given that the software is developed in Australia for release in NZ.

I would uninstall Pro Timer completely and try again. Resort your lists in QuickBooks and do a rebuild before exporting the lists to the new Pro Timer files.

Something seems to be corrupt with your installation, so generally the rule is to try again.
