QuickBooks vs Peachtree vs Microsoft

For the first three years of my business I used MS-Money for Home and Business. No complaints, easy to setup, it served me well, but as the business grew I needed something that would give me more detailed information. I bought Peachtree a few months ago to try it out. It just didn't seem to fit for my small business. It was really overkill. Two weeks ago I purchased QuickBooks Pro 2006 and I'm amazed that I was able to get it all setup and running in this short time span. Changing over to different software was not something I viewed as a minor thing. During the process of changing over, purchases and sales didn't stop, so there was pressure to get it working as soon as possible. Meanwhile there was the work of closing last year's books and preparing for taxes. Overall, the changeover to Quickbooks was relatively painless and I'm already getting the benefits of the extra information it provides. It was a wise investment. As for the money spent on Peachtree, it can be chalked up to education.

It's doesn't have to be a complete waste - think selling your copy on Ebay.

According to the Peachtree license, it cannot be transferred. The EULA states that I did not buy the software, I bought only the right to use it. The software remains their property and they have the right to revoke the license at any time. I haven't read the Quickbooks EULA in its entirely so I don't know yet if anyone actually owns Quickbooks, either. More and more software is being "sold" like this, when in fact it is more like it is being rented.

Well, that sucks. No wonder they don't display the EULA on their web site!

I'd tell 'em I don't agree with the proposed license terms and I want my money back.

Yes Allan can read, I know according to you it is pirated. What makes you an idiot is you somehow feel you are justified in posting the key code here.

You did mention that you were originally able to install this software; therefore the message that anyone would see is the exact message they saw when they installed their own software. Nothing earth shattering here, you are not doing anyone a favor here.

Poor social skills? Here I thought I just had bad breath.

No, the message they will see will not be the same. They will only see the message saying it is pirated if their software is illegal. I am not the one who is ultimately judging this to be an illegal copy, it is Intuit who is saying it is an illegal copy. You say Intuit may be wrong. I think Intuit knows what they are doing and I think they are correct in this matter. You may continue to bash everyone including Intuit but it won't change the fact that the software I purchased from Tekdealers.com couldn't be registered to me as the legal owner. I've given you everything you need to verify this including the s/n. I've listed sites with reviews of Tekdealers.com with the comments of other buyers. Still you do not believe and you seem to imply that I'm fabricating a story. It appears your mind is made up and you don't want to be confused by the facts.

Well you certainly pegged me correctly. You display your keen sense of insightfullness when you call me an Intuit basher.

I purchased from Tekdealers.com

I must have dreamed that you actually posted the intall key on a public newsgroup.

What you are worried about the 25 free uses before they have to call Intuit and get told it is pirated, go buy a legal copy?

Take a shower in liquid nitrogen and chill out!

I guess he doesn't understand that the s/n is no good without the registration number from Intuit. I added him to my killfile so I don't get to enjoy his blather anymore unless I see a reply to him.

It has become quite evident that I do not know anything about QB. Therefore from this moment on I shall cease giving any advice and defer such matters to our new friend and resident QB expert, Bobby Boy.

Leave him alone. He is only helping the piraters. Then again some of the software and things we buy are pirated anyway, so whose to stop the trend.

As a follow-up, I received a letter from Intuit thanking me for participating in their anti-piracy program and for the documentation I sent them. So far, my credit card company has listed only a conditional credit while they investigate. I'll let you know how it turns out with the credit card company.
