Reducing size of Quickbooks Premier 2005 Database

I have an "occasional" client who has QB Premier 2005 on a standalone XP Pro workstation. They have been letting their (offsite) bookkeeper handle maintenance on their database since they are light on technical computer skills.

I was called in to do some computer maintenance a few months ago. They were complaining that QB was running slow and I noticed that the size of their QB database was 470 MB. I told them they needed to archive the database and try to get the size down below 100 MB (at least).

They finally had their bookkeeper address the situation this weekend. However, while this weekend's QB archive shows 363 MB, the QB database still shows a size of 347 MB. (I presume that the bookkeeper knows what she's doing when it comes to archiving. She's a QB ProAdvisor and has used the product for many years).

Are there any reasons why the database might not have been significantly reduced in size?

Thanks for any input.

Merv

You did not give us enough information for an informed response. What was the database start date before the condense and what was it after?

That's what I first suspected: the bookkeeper entered a recent date rather than one that is two or 3 years in the past. My understanding is that the database was last archived in late 2003. Unfortunately, the bookkeeper is "busy" now and can't get back to me for a day or so. I'll try to get this info and report back.

Assuming that she entered a proper date, is their anything else that could cause the database size not to reduce?
