Question about PT Premium Accounting 2005 with multiple users

Hello!

Is Peachtree an application that can be run in multi-user mode using this package: Peachtree Premium Accounting 2005 (box has a part number of PPA2005RT)? If so, would I just need to buy another identical package, or does it require a special multi-user version of licensing?

Here is why I ask. I am a network consultant who recently picked up a client that uses Peachtree Premium Accounting 2005. I have no experience with Peachtree. This client previously had a peer-to-peer network of XP stations (two XP Pro and one XP Home) and they are now on a domain using Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 R2 as their server. The Peachtree program and database are installed on the server. For their plumbing business, they have a dispatching package called Electronic Service Control (ESC) from Coastal Computer Corporation. This package integrates with PT via the ESC Peachtree Server application, and it is capable of automatically populating PT with data entered into ESC. The caveat is that PT and ESC must be installed on the same computer (the server) in order for that integration to work, and

***PT must be left running*** alongside the ESC Peachtree Server application.

If I leave PT running on the server so that it will integrate with ESC, and any user opens PT on a workstation, PT pops an error stating that the serial number is already in use. I would like to buy another Peachtree Premium Accounting 2005 package and install it on the server so the serial numbers are different, but I do not know if that will satisfy PT for multi-user mode, or if it requires a special network version or network license mode.

Does anyone have any ideas how to have Peachtree Premium Accounting 2005 (box has a part number of PPA2005RT) running on the SBS 2003 R2 server and open it on a workstation without the above error?

Thank you for your help!

It would seem that you have only a single license.

You might try calling Peachtree to purchase another PPA2005 license, but because your PPA2005 version is two years old, they most likely will suggest that you upgrade to PPA2007, at additional cost. Otherwise try eBay for either another single user PPA2005 for your workstation, or perhaps a multi-user PPA2005 to update to five users.

There will be a solution out there somewhere.

Ted,

Thank you for the response. I was beginning to think the only thing in here was Viagra ads!

They do have a single license, but what I do not know is if they can just buy another identical package and have those two work, or if it needs a network version of the application or a network or multi-user license.

I already found a good price for the same package currently in use (single-license package)..

Assuming they were to buy another identical single-license package (with its own serial number), do you know if that would allow them to leave PT open on the server with a company open and then open the new serial number package from a workstation? Or is there an actual requirement of a multi-user license?

Hi Gregg

I don't have personal experience, but if my memory still serves me, Peachtree has advertised that if you only need to facilitate two users, you acquire two single user packages, and the two licenses will allow two accesses to the same data files. If you need three or more accesses, then that seems to be the price cross-over point where it would be beneficial to acquire a "value pack" multi-user license allowing up to five user accesses.

To be sure, double-check with Peachtree sales as to their claims in this regard.

Well, that would be too cool. Thanks for the tip! I'll try to give them a shout tomorrow.

Ted,

I just called them, and after I finally got the sales person to be quiet long enough to listen to me, she confirmed that you can have two single-license packages connect to the same database, BUT you must be using Peachtree **Premium** Accounting and not just the low-end Peachtree Accounting package.

Thank you for that tip!

Ted,

We bought another package and updated the registration of their package that is currently installed on the server. They now have the server with PT left running, and they have their workstation connecting at the same time.

Good advice...thank you!
