Peachtree 2005/Fixed Assets move to server

I have a client that installed Peachtree Complete Accounting 2005 on one workstation with the Fixed Asset (FAS) program. After using the program for a few weeks, they want to move the company files to their Windows XP Pro (acting as a server) and use an additional licensed workstation to access the data.

Well, I didn't have any trouble moving the company data files to the "server", but when looking for the Fixed Assets, I get an error message. The Peachtree expects it to be on the original workstation.

Does any one know if there is a "*.ini" file that can be changed to point to the "server" for the location of both the company files and fixed asset data?

Thanks!

I found a Peachtree Knowledgebase article (263) that might be the answer to my question. I might be able to change the DATAPATH in both the PCW120.INI and BTI.INI (for FAS) files to point to a map drive on the "server". I'll try it this weekend and see if I'm successful.

Any input is still welcomed and appreciated.

I found that the FAS that comes with Peachtree Complete Accounting is a single user license and can't be installed on a server. Nowhere on the Peachtree web site do they share this information. I had to search the Internet to find a web site that actually listed the various versions of FAS and displayed the features.

There isn't any command line in the BTI.INI file to cahnge the location of the FAS software and you get an error message if you try to install it on a mapped drive.

I've worked with FAS before. U can't install it, the program itself, on a server, but you can keep the data files on a server. - Steve
