Waiting a little on QB2006

We're a very small company with 6 employees, and we are currently using single-user QB2003Pro and Basic Payroll (or whatever it's called).

We bought QB2006Pro last week and it's still in the box. After seeing all of the fixes that are now being made (through R3), our thinking is that it might make sense to wait a little before starting to use QB2006. I assume that probably makes sense, and can't hurt, right? Seems like Intuit is fixing problems rather quickly.

QB2006Pro ended up only costing us under $139. I thought that was great. We bought it at Staples which had an instant rebate of $20 off the $179 price, and we had a $20-off coupon that we received in the mail from Intuit (which expires on 12/31/2005). We used American Express to make the purchase which gives an additional 2% off on any purchases we make at Staples. And, we have some kind of Business Rewards card with Staples that results in some future discounts I think.

The fact that (R3) is out, my take, it is now safe to go into the water. Come on in, join the fun, the water is just fine.

Intuit has been testing the sucker for three years. Its perfect for normal cases. I suspect problems are being reported from environments never contemplated by the staff testers (being used below sea level, on a Radio Shack TRS80 using Windows 3.11 emulation, etc.).

We upgraded from QB 2004 to QB 2006. Several multi user clients as well as several Premier versions. Are generally pleased. Installing R3 was not a big deal, except for 2 things: 1) you really need broadband and

2) on one installation the internal update out of QB just would not work - tried it several times, reset the update, etc. After talking to technical support we downloaded the update directly off the QB website and it worked "likety split." Apparently QB is aware of this problem.

Thanks all. I guess we'll be taking the plunge soon.

I've been using QB since 99 Pro and had the same upgrade concerns as you, but installed 2006 Contractors Edition after making several backups (out of paranoia that one wouldn't be enough). I have to say I like some of the new features and views quite a bit; particularly the Customer Center and Payroll Center. The only problem I had after install was I unknowingly had caplocks on when entering my new password...doh! We're running a server-client relationship on two machines and everything is seems fine, although printing slows down the prog somewhat, noticeably slower than our previous QB2003 Contractors Edition. R3 installed fine on both machines as well. One caveat though - I've only been using 06 for a couple of weeks and really haven't done much in-depth work, just some light AR, AP and Payroll stuff.

My impression is that over 1,000 beta testers got a fairly long time to report QB2006 problems and fixes came quickly. We use several networked

2.4 - 2.8 P4 systems, with 256 - 1g and were generally very impressed. Sorry we did not use it under Windows Terminal Server until recently, as QB only officially supports WTS for Enterprise.

Thanks. I'm sure we'll be fine with the QB2006. The good news is that the QB2006 has been out long enough for some unexpected problems to appear, and the fixes are being made rather quickly.
