Account used to pay scheduled transactions in Q2009

I just had my credit card hacked. The bank replaced it promptly.

The problem is that I have a number of scheduled transactions paid by the old credit card. I've made a new account in Q2009 for the new credit card. Is there a way to display which account is used to pay a scheduled transaction? I need to make sure all the scheduled transactions have been changed correctly.

Hi, Sam.

There may be a better way, but if there are not a lot of those scheduled transactions, you might just list your Reminders and then Edit each one for "This and all future reminders", changing the "Pay from account". Your new account should show in the drop-down list.

Or just wait until each payment comes due and then change the Pay from account for that and future such payments.

Of course, this is only for making your entries into Quicken. It does not change the actual payments. The credit card company should handle that end of the transaction automatically, since they are aware of the hack and replacement.

The reason I would like to be able to display the account a scheduled transaction is paid by is to make sure I've changed everything and done so correctly. Waiting until a future charge occurs is always an option, but in one case, the charge occurs every 2 years. I have 10 scheduled transactions paid by credit card.

My credit card company has been great about this. The change over on the bank end has essentially been automatic as far as I am concerned.

In my experience, the bank will move any valid transactions from the old accout to the new account and they show up just fine.

You are absolutely correct. This is exactly what my bank did. However, what my bank did had no influence on the scheduled transactions within Quicken 2009. I needed to change all the scheduled transactions so they reflect the new credit card number, not the old one. I want to be able to display (if possible) all the scheduled transactions and the credit card account paying so I can verify the corrections made by me were done correctly.

I know of no way to do this other than to manually edit the Reminders as R C White suggested.

I just went through this myself, if there's an easier way I never found it.

If you have the "Bill and Income Reminders" pane displayed on a View (tab) in your "My Pages" tab, you can click the Options button and elect to "Show accounts".

You mean scheduled transactions within Quicken? Why wouldn't you use the Banking / Bill and Income Reminders List (Ctrl J) to review each one?

IIRC (it's been a while, thankfully), I just changed the credit card number in the account properties. I believe that not too long ago (a few months at most) this was also the advice given here for a problem that was very similar.

The bank knows that it is the same CC account you have had for a while. They just issued a new number because of your problem. I have lost/misplaced my card, and just been issued a new one. Same account, different number. Editing the number in Quicken made everything very easy for me.

This is how I did it also. It is also nice to put a $0.00 transaction into the account and note the old number and the change. That serves as a future reminder of when and why the account number was changed.

I just keep the same Quicken Account, change the Accounting Number and note in Comments in the Account Detail window, the Old Number and the when it was change. I also keep track of when the Account was opened in the Comments field.

See the thread "Reusing same CC account for new VISA card?" that I started on 3/13/09 for this exact situation. Why did you need to create a new account? Assuming the card is from the same FI (and maybe not even needed to do that), just change the account to go for the new card number; I think I had to deactivate and reactivate the account to have the server pick up the new account numbers.

I also had to manually delete a bunch of outgoing entries that were made to the old account number stating individual transactions (downloaded by the FI as they were moving the transactions from the old card number to the new one during this migration period before I physically took possession of the new card) were moving to the new one (which wasn't the case as far as Q is concerned since it was in the same account).

Worked fine, I still have one account for the same FI, albeit a different number, and all my automatic payments never needed to be changed AS FAR AS QUICKEN was concerned. I still had to manually call or visit the website for each of those that needed to have the biller know about the new credit cared number (NY Times, Auto Insurance company, etc. etc.)
