I would call your brokerage firms online support number and find out how far back do they pass data in the downloads. Quicken should detect the last download and be okay but if they only save data for 90 days then you will only get a snapshot of your current holdings.
Why not create a new account and see what happens?

To answer your question: If you do a direct connection download (Quicken connects to the FI) then there's no way to specify date ranges for downloading. If you do a web connection (you connect to your FI via your browser) then there MAY be a way to specify date ranges, but it depends on the FI itself.
