My neighbor's quicken backup sets have many dates next to the file name. How can we delete all the dates/

It sounds like your neighbor has been opening backup files.

Newer versions of Quicken offer an option to have Quicken append the current date to the name of the backup file the user creates. If the user then opens that backup file, and creates another backup, a second date will be appended to the file name. Etc.

You should not "open" backup files ... much less use them as your regular data file.

If you need to view the contents of a backup file, use Windows Explorer to make a Copy of the files in your Quicken fileset (QDATA.*), and open/view in the Copy.

If you need to replace your current file with a backup, you should "restore" the backup.

If you want to remove the date(s) from a (backup) file, use Quicken's "rename" feature. File > File Operations > Rename.

Quicken saves the data at the last place it was read from. Also, that file set is automatically opened if you open Quicken. Under the File menu are listed the last 4 different file sets opened, in the order of last opened file set first, least recently opened file set fourth. If you opened the last file set 15 times, but no other file set during that time, the file set opened 16 times ago is listed as second (but only if different from the last 15), etc.

To make sure you open a specific file set, make a shortcut to the qdf file of that file set, and open that qdf file. Quicken will launch and open the whole file set. You can make different shortcuts to different file sets. My data, Mom data, Boy Scout data, etc.
