Attachments in 2006

Not if you want Quicken to manage and find them,

So... I have to have my images where they normally live AND "import" them (actually move them to ..\Attach\...\Txn) ?

What in the world? Why can't I just use a link?

And... It looks like if you move the data files to another folder *without* the attachment folder and then open Quicken 2006 the attachment icon in the register is gone even though the attachment image it still present. Any way to rebuild the icons?

If you move them they only live in one place. Problem with that place is you can't figure out by looking which attachment is which - the sub-folder and file naming conventions within \ATTACH\ is not easily figured out, if at all.

Perhaps because the Quicken developers could not backup a link? Questions like these are futile. Either suggest an improvement on the Quicken feedback page or put up with it. No-one here knows the real design decisions,

It will look for \ATTACH\ in the *same* folder as the Quicken data file. You can rebuild the icons by doing a new attach image which will create a new \ATTACH\ folder. Much easier to move the folder and its contents *with* the data file.

The icons don't rebuild as you've described. Maybe I'm not doing this correctly.

How can this method of attaching documents be depended upon? The first time you open Quicken 2006 without the Attach folder all the icons are stripped out.

It might never happen and, of course, "just don't open quicken without the Attach folder." is a solution like the Doctor telling the patient whose finger hurts "when I move it this way" to not move it that way...

The way this is now, if you've "attached" (actually copied) dozens or maybe even hundreds of documents into the Attach folder, copy quicken to a new area or to your USB key-fob and forget the attach folder and then open it you will lose all the icons in the register.

I was hoping a Super Validate would correct this but it doesn't.

It takes a little bit more work but you can do something to help identify whats in the folders pretty easy.

You now have a visual image of what is stored in the folder.
