Attachments and Q07

I just upgraded to Quicken 2007. The attachments feature is nice. Until now I have been scanning all my receipts and important documents into Acrobat. It appears Quicken makes a jpg out of them but I can't figure out where it stores the data. I use Quicken Online backup and:

1). I need to know how much extra data this is and where it is located so I know if it is possible with the amount of storage I own. 2) If not, I would like to back it up manually to DVD's as I have with all my receipts previously. Thanks in advance for anyhelp, Craig (Using Quicken since version 1 for DOS 1985)

Note that recent threads (w/in the last 24 hours) in this same NG say there might be a problem with DVD backups.

Thanks for the reply. I had read that thread. My questions was aimed towards which extra files are there to back up with the attachements. I need to see how big they actually are so I can size my on-line backup appropriately.

I'd suggest the following: Make a new attachment file from within Quicken. Then search for *.jpg with the current date. You may be getting lots of files from your browser's cache, but sorting them (in detail view) according to path/directory may find the one Quicken just made. That directory should hold all the jpgs Quicken made (I hope).

If Q2007 works like Q2006, the attachments are in a folder named "Attach" in the same folder as your Quicken data fileset. If your backup media doesn't have sufficient space for the entire Attach folder, Quicken will not try to back any of it up.

John, Thanks for your reply. There is no such folder as "attach" that I can find on my computer. Craig

I found it. The attachments are in a folder called "Attach" as you said. It is a subdirectory of the backup directory. My assumption is that the Quicken data is stored in the backup directory (QDF, QEL etc..) and the "attachments" are stored in the [D]:\Program Files\QuickenW\Backup\Attach\QData\Txn.. directory. Each attachment is given an 8 digit name and under that there is (are) the receipt files. So far mine are jpg. (Of course Quicken may be in a different directory for you). When I tried to scan a 2 page bill, it would only take one and I had to make a second attachment. That is a bit annoying. I'll have to play with this.

Finding this "attach" folder will help me decide how to backup my files. Thanks, Craig
