Change Register in IRA for 2001

I'm converting my Q2001 data to Q2005 and I'm trying to correct a line in my IRA register. It's an XIn and I'm trying to fix the Memo & Description. But I get an error saying to "Enter 2003 or 2004". I tried to trick it by changing the system date to 2001, but Quicken didn't care.

Is there a way around this? I don't want to go back to my Q2001 because I've made quite a few changes already.

Thanks

The approach depends on what the correct tax year should be.

If it is a 2004 tax year transaction, enter 2004 in the tax year field and Quicken will accept the transaction.

If it is a 2005 tax year transaction, key 2003 into the tax year field and click enter. Quicken will bitch again saying the year must be 2004 or 2005, but if you click "ok", Quicken will enter the transaction with a 2005 tax year.

I guess I wasn't detailed enough. The line I am trying to change was transacted on 3/14/2001 and the Tax year is 2001. I don't want to indicate that it's for 2004 or 2005.

Go to the register of the account the transfer was made "from". Delete the original transaction and re-enter it with what values you want in Description and Memo.

Unfortunately the transfer in is from an outside checking account not part of the quicken file. It was one of those "Self-Transfer" where the "Transfer account" was from itself.

If you don't setup an account to initiate the transfer from, then I think you are out of luck.

Let me qualify that a bit. If you want to keep a "transfer cash into account" (XIn), I believe you will need a different account to transfer the funds "from" for tax years earlier than 2004. You could setup a dummy account and keep it hidden and out of the account bar, etc.

You may be able to achieve something similar by using a "deposit" transaction in your IRA account; which, as far as I can tell, does not care what tax year the deposit occured in ... but maybe that is not a good thing.
