Default Opening Account

How to set an account in Quicken to be the default account?

Any solution is appreciated in advance, thank you!

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think there is such a thing as a default account. Maybe someone else knows. Can you clarify what you mean?

I think that the default account is the last opened one. Nevertheless, the desktop shortcut to open Quicken can also be set to point at the qdf file of your desired dataset. I.e.: "C:\Documents and Settings\memyself\My Documents\MyData.QDF"

Thusly, you can have multiple shortcuts to separate data sets.

That opens a file, not a specific account. I realize you know that already. Just wanted to make sure the OP isn't confused by this advice.

...if what you want to do is have Quicken always open to the same account.

In Q 2006 Basic go to the "Edit" dropdown menu. Pick "Preferences" and inside that pick "Quicken program." When you get to that screen choose "Startup preferences. In the middle of that screen you'll see "On startup open to:" which leads to a dropdown box that lists all of your accounts. That should do what you want to do. I don't know how much the process differs in other versions.

Indeed. Mea culpa. The eternal confusion between data set and Quicken account.

I set Q2006 to open at a specific Quicken account by choosing it at: Edit|preferencesQuicken Program|Startup|On stratup open to:

Yep. Sorry I didn't see this reply sooner. It was a new thread here in NJ.
