Deleting a Payee

Now think about this Homer (and we realize, from the TV show, that you aren't the swiftest of dudes), whether or not there will be an impact depends ENTIRELY upon whether those payees are presently (within the duration of your QDF file) in use.

Now, since you haven't bothered (very Homer-like) to tell us what version of Q you are using, what the extent of your QDF file is, or -- basically ANYTHING -- we don't know s*it ... which is somewhat more that you appear to know. In fact, you seem to be well qualified as a Homerian Dumb-F (figure it out for yourself)

I've deleted payees in Q'02, Q'05, & Q'08 & it's behaved pretty much the same in each version, so I don't think version matters.

I assume you're talking about deleting an Online Payee.

If so, no, there will be no immediate impact to existing transactions that I've ever observed. All your ledgers will still show those payments to the payee as it currently exists. It simply makes those payees unavailable for future payments.

That said, I HAVE encountered situations where I've needed to 'resurrect' a payee. I think I tried to change cell phone providers, then came back to the original one. Quicken won't let you re-use a Payee Name + Description (optional) combination w/in the same data file. So, any time I delete a payee, I change the description to the month & year that I deleted them, making the Payee Name (w/o the description) available for future use, if needed.
