Electronic Transactions - Brokerage to/from Quicken 2005 HB

I need guidance on setting up a brokerage account to communicate with Quicken 2005 HB.

For many years I've held shares in certificate form as well as allowing the various companies to hold some on their books. The entire investment was recorded in an account called "Stocks" in Quicken. Transactions were posted to "Stocks" from the statements.

Last month I've opened an internet brokerage account and transferred the shares held on company books into the new internet brokerage account; Scottrade. I've done nothing with Quicken yet.

I would be interested in making the link between Quicken 2005 HB and the Scottrade account as I've been lead can be made. provided it isn't fraught with glitches. I'd like to view a video or read a step-by-step set of instructions that would show me what gets transferred and how it works before I tamper with anything.

Q1) If something like this does exist, please point me to it.

My plan is to create the brokerage account as "Scottrade" in Quicken then manually transfer from "Stocks" the shares that were electronically moved from the companies to the brokerage. Then, when I fell comfortable about the link between the brokerage and Quicken. and understand how it will work and on what data. I'll complete the task.

Q2) Does this make sense?

Do it in a copy of your data file. That way you are not betting the house on it working first time round and you can always start over or abandon the first effort.
