File Size Anomaly

I'm using Quicken 2005 for the Mac and noticed this very weird discrepancy:

I have a file which has just one account with about 5 years worth of transactions in it (hundreds of transactions). It also has the default home category list. The file size is about 940 KB.

I just created a new file to track the account of our homeowner association. I deleted all of the categories save for five I am using in this account. This file has just one account in it and has only five (5) transactions. The file size is 1.1 MB.

Can anyone explain how the second account is larger, when it has so many fewer transactions and categories?

Probably not.

But clearly your older file was originally created in an older version of Quicken; newer versions of Quicken often create files with larger base sizes than older versions did.

If, like the windows version, there's such a facility in Q/Mac, try doing a file copy and/or a "Year End Copy". These actions may clean out some of the accumulated junk in your data files ... and then you can use (or not) the new files as you choose.
