Follow up to old question: "Sync" transactions from bank?

So a while back {From: Evan Platt Newsgroups: alt.comp.software.financial.quicken Subject: Redownload deleted transactions? Date: Sat, 30 Jul 2011 23:27:22 -0700 Message-ID: )

I asked about how to redownload transactions from my bank into Quicken. Such that say I sync tranactions, but then delete a transaction by accident, if I re-import the QFX file, that missing transaction won't be redownloaded.

Is there a way to 'sync' or find that missing transaction?

In essence, what I'd like to do is compare a QFX file to my checkbook register, and be able to easily see "here's the transaction that's in the QFX file but not in Quicken?

Thanks :)

You mean disable one step update and then re-enable one step update?

I'm not using that - I'm simply going to my bank (Chase) web site and select download to QFX.

I have no idea what transactions are missing :)

The simplest way I can think of is to create a New Quicken file, setup the account for downloading in that New file, and do a download.

A Banking > Transaction report from each file (or something similar) should tell you which transactions were downloaded to the New file, and whether those transactions were already in the old file.

You could also look at the QFX file directly (with an editor or word processor: Word is good, since it allows you to insert line breaks when the financial institution doesn't).

[With a Web Connect download (a QFX file download), all transactions in the date range should "download" (be present in the QFX file). But Quicken doesn't present those transactions that it believes have already been downloaded - which Quicken determines by checking their Financial Institution Transaction ID (or FITID). Since there would be no previously downloaded transactions in a New Quicken file, all "downloaded" transactions should be presented to you by Quicken.]
