I'm trying to enter a negative amount in the Quicken 2006 Paycheck dialog but it won't let me. My paycheck has a negative FICA amount but I don't know how to enter it into Quicken. However I accomplish it, I need it to be correct when the data is imported into TurboTax. Any help greatly appreciated.
How to enter negative FICA amount

One of the limits of the Paycheck Wizard - it will not accept negative deductions [credits] such as you are attempting.
A quick work-around that should work; enter a split transaction in a cash-flow account [checking?]. Enter the FICA correction with the FICA category as one split and offset this with a cash transaction of same value but opposite sign - you get net zero on a cash basis.
Verify the handling by running QW's Tax Schedule Report and examine the results under the header 'W-2'. May have to tinker with pos/neg amounts in the split transaction to get the 'credit' to FICA.
Just occurred to me - perhaps an easier and more straight forward alternative.
Open the paycheck entry in the register. Click on 'Add Earnings' Enter the FICA credit here, using the normal FICA category. The regular FICA deduction will be zero for this transaction.
Again, verify results in the Tax Sched Report.
This accomplished what I thought I wanted, thank you! After verifying the results, I notice my paystub has the full amount of FICA paid for the year, but without the money returned. This is strange. Even though my paycheck has a credit under FICA and the amount is correct, the "credit" wasn't calculated in the FICA YTD number. I was thinking it may just be an accounting mistake but I know I'm not the first person to go through this with my company. Hmmm, more research to do.
Thanks again!
