Investing Center ?

When I look at Today's Data tab it shows all of my investment accounts (even those that I have marked to hide) I have shifted investments over the years and really don't want to see all of these "0" accounts. How can I get rid of them without deleting them (or is that the solution?

What version of Quicken?

With Q2006 hiding an account, even an active account, makes it disappear from my Today's Data info.

Are you sure you hid the account and not just the securities that were in it?

Can you find any Options or Customize View button for that tab that allows you to show hidden accounts? [I can't find any on my Today's Data page.]

It seems that almost every version of Quicken shows hidden accounts or securities in some places where it shouldn't or where some users wish it didn't. If the above didn't help you need to identify your Quicken version so that someone with the same version can address your problem.

I am using Q2006 Premier version. When I go into the account list/manage accounts I have checked the box in the "hide in Quicken" columnof the accounts I want to hide.. The problem is that the accounts still show up in Investment Center with the Today's Data tab. I shows all of the individual securities that I have ever owned even those that I sold some years ago.

Gary,

You said it was showing obsolete *accounts*. If it's showing obsolete

*securities* the hidden securities may still be in your Watch List.

Go into the Security List (Investing -> Security List or Ctrl+Y).

Do you see your hidden securities in the list [they'll have a little hand icon to the right of the security name]? If not, near the upper right click on "Options", then "View hidden securities".

Next, in the right-hand column labeled "Watch", click on the boxes with checkmarks for all your obsolete securities to remove them from the Watch List.

Finally, if desired, click on "Options" and "View hidden securities" again, to rehide the old securities in the Security List.

Does this fix your problem? If not, post back. I'm stumped, but maybe someone else can help.

One other thing - you also have to hide the securities, in addition to removing them from the Watch List, if you haven't already done so.

If you don't see the hand icon next to the security it isn't hidden. Select the security then click on "Hide (x)" near the top center of the list; this is a toggle switch that toggles a security between hidden and unhidden.

I followed your logic and I must say I have done everything you suggest. I don't have any securities in my watch list, all securities that I want to hide have the little hand showing. but--Alas all of the securities I have ever owned show up in the Today's Data either in their respective catagory (Retirement or Investing).

I'm now really grasping at straws, especially since we have the same Quicken version (unless you have a Mac version) and mine works perfectly.

You could back up your data then uninstall and reinstall Quicken. Sometimes Quicken components become corrupted and reinstalling it fixes quirky problems. Have you run Quicken Online Update to get the latest fixes? I'm on Quicken 2006 Premier Home & Business Release QA 5 (see Help -> About Quicken). I don't think the H&B part matters but you do want "QA 5" and not "R 5".

You might also try validating your database (File -> File Operations ->

Validate). Are you sure the securities have *exactly* zero shares - sometimes stock splits can leave a tiny fraction of a share in your holdings. But that couldn't possibly explain hidden *groups* showing up - I have no trouble hiding any of my groups, even the active ones.

If none of the above works, or perhaps even before you try the above, why don't you repost, starting a new thread with a title something like "Hidden groups and securities show in Investing Center (Q06)". Then repeat what you've already tried here or refer them to this thread.

It's best to start a new thread because experts in this group tend to ignore a thread with responses. Others in the group know a lot more that I do and perhaps I didn't give them quite enough time to reply before I stepped in. But the fact that no one else responded sooner might indicate a hard-to-diagnose problem.

Also identify your operating system and, if you know, how you installed and are running Quicken (e.g. as a regular user or an administrator) and any other details about your computer you think might be useful.
