Q2009 - hiding accounts in Today's Data

using Quicken 2009 dlx - Over time, I've moved in and out of several mutual funds. I have checkmarked these old zero balance funds as "hidden". They do not show up in the left hand sidebar of Accounts.

However - they still do show listed in the daily quicken update screen.... Investing tab -> Today's Data tab -> Investment & Retirement Accounts

When I started with Quicken, I did it the same way. Later, I realized that those are not accounts. They are investments within an account. That is how they should be set up in Quicken.

For example... . I have a Wells Fargo Brokerage Account. In that account, I own several individual stocks and several mutual funds. When I sell them, the proceeds go back into the cash portion of the account. But, the account doesn't go away, or need to be hidden.

At Vanguard, I have shares in the Wellington Fund, and the Bond Funds. But, they are all within the Vanguard account.

Hope this helps.

my Today's Data screen is definately showing the Account names vs the Security names. These were all mutual fund accounts, and some were the "single fund" per account and some were not from places like American Century and Vanguard..... among others.

almost asked the same exact question as last january.... here's the answer - looks like Quicken uses this "checkbox" in different ways.

-- Pull up the account list (Ctrl-A)

Make sure the checkbox at the bottom left corner to "Show hidden accounts" is unchecked. Quicken has some routines that ocassionally check that box on the sly.
