Linking a credit account to an asset?

I discovered that USAA supports one click downloads of HELOC accounts today, with a twist: The account is classified as a credit account, not a loan account. What this means is that the account can't be tied to the underlying asset.

Not a big deal - but it would be nice to be able to have both the main mortgage and the HELOC tied to the asset.

Strangely enough - when I go to the asset and look at the linked loans, in addition to the main mortgage loan, it shows a link to a vehicle loan. The Help states that you should be able to delink loans from the asset, but this does not appear to be possible. I ran Validate and Super Validate, but nothing changed.

Strange...

It's a sort of Catch-22. Quicken doesn't have a true HELOC account and doesn't download to Liability accounts. So if you need the download, it has to be a credit card account ... which can't be linked to a Liability account.

You didn't say what Quicken year version you are using.

Did you try going to the Overview tab of the auto loan: clicking Edit Account Details, and choosing "(none)" in the "Linked Asset Account" drop down?

QD2009. Yes, I did. (none) does not show up as an option - just the linked accounts. Curiosity really. My data files go back over 10 years, so I don't want to recreate everything.

Interesting. I think there is a bug in Q2009, in not showing "(none)" as a choice.

Try keying the word "none" (no quotes) in the Linked Asset Account box. Click Ok. Then go back and look; it should say "(none)" with no quotes. Check Asset account; should also read "(none)", no quotes.

Same problem exists in Q2010; same workaround succeeds.

Very good! Was able to remove the ghost links and restore the main mortgage link. Still don't have the link to the Heloc account, but as you said, that may not be possible.
