looking for a replacement for quicken

I'm tired of being forced to upgrade to yet a newer crappier version of quicken every three years when I was happy with the very first version I got many years ago. I don't really care if the block quotes and access to the online junk they provide that I will never use, but it pisses me off when they block my online connection to my bank.

Anyway I am looking for a replacement for quicken that allows unhindered (within the limits of technology anyway...) access to my back and brokerage account with quicken 99 or 00 features and not much more.

It looks like about 2 years before gnucash catches up and takes most of the quickens personal users away so I need a gap filler....

What are the choices ??

thanks for any info

You may need a backscratcher for back access - Quicken is no good for that anyway.

You are paying brokerage fees to your broker, but you're not willing to pay a few dollars to Intuit?

I agree that it is annoying to have to pay Intuit for another slightly different GUI every few years, but the alternative is a subscription model, and people are not going for that either.

Gnucash, MoneyDance, etc. etc. are worth a try but nothing will replace Quicken, it's head and shoulders above every other application. Like you, I'd love to find something else that works but... there's Quicken and ReallySucks, no other alternative, sorry.

For your brokerage account try 'KBH Investor Accounting'...

Here is a user link to the program:

Now this program will process a download file of configuration and a full service broker might make the files for their high-net-worth clients or a developer could convert an existing file format...

And 'KBH Investor Accounting' is professional in nature in that it equally weights all function of the program and professional in nature in that investment performance is core to the endeavor.

The program will also track the intermediate value of a short position or of a call option write. And the program has an itemized FIFO transaction matching. In all the program has a Portfolio book, a Register book, a Mark-to-Market book of YTD result, a Transaction input book, and the Realized book with the transaction matching.

I essentially feel the same way. They sell you a product, but don't tell you up front that it only works for a few years. I think that's a disreputable way to do business, and I even suspect that a court might agree if someone were willing to fight it.

On the other hand, it's such a good product and it costs so little. I just can't get too upset over having to buy a new version every now and then, when the cost is so slight. I usually buy a new version every couple of years or so anyway (even before it stops working) because I want the new features. My favorite recent feature is the ability to scan and attach documentation to registry entries.
