Lost categories.

I have used Quicken for many years through many versions. Currently I use Q.

2005 Home and Business with XP. I am in the middle of my 2007 budget. Everything was going OK until I lost all my income categories from my Categories List and from my Budget list.

The income items are still shown in the Register View but without categories. Selecting Options in Budget/Budget does not help.

As I recall I did not do anything to cause this problem. There was no warning that this could happen. I do a backup when suggested by Quicken (every three uses of Q).

Any ideas how I may recover the seven Income categories for my register and my budget?

Many thanks.

Peter.

You can try Validating a Quicken Copy of your current data; if that get's things working, make the Validated Copy your current file.

Otherwise check your backups (including the automatic ones that Quicken makes in the BACKUP folder in your Quicken data folder, the ones with the single digit suffixed to the data file names); revert to the most recent one with no missing categories.

John, many thanks for your comments. I have tried your suggestions without success. What do you think about a reinstall of the program from CD?

No backups with categories?

If it were me, I would certainly give it a shot; if it's not the data, the program is about all that's left.
