Mastercard/visa with direct connect

For the third time, my mc/visa bank has dropped quicken direct connect. GRRR!! Any recommendations on quicken-friendly mc/visa issuers? [I happened to notice that Q2009 told me "check out Quicken Visa" -- surely Quicken's *own* card will support direct connect, yes? and I really don't care much about the terms/rates/etc or who issues it] Thanks! /Bernie\

I have a "Quicken Visa" (though Citibank) and a Visa through Wachovia that both work just fine via direct connect. Neither has an annual fee. No idea what the APR is as I pay the balance in full every month.

My Citibank MC and Chase Visa still seem to work. Of course, Discover and Amex-Costco also work. It's just my Chase checkin and savings that stopped working. WHen I have time, I'll "visit" the local branch.

My Bank of America cards work too.

I have another card with Elan services that says that it only supports web-connect. No problem. I downloaded the file and imported it without any problem. Going forward, it configured itself to work with the One-step update. This might be the WebConnect express but since it works with the OSU I don't care what method it uses.

Chase Freedom Card. 1.25% back if you wait till you have $200 in credits. Quicken friendly - once you turn it on at the web site.

Yes! I was going to recommend the same for a Visa card. It works great with Quicken, and the cash back rebate is very good. For MC, I use CitiBank Dividend card. It also works well with Quicken, and also has a good cash back rebate. That one doesn't bump up the rebate by $50 when you hit $200 though.

Interesting. One of the things that kicked off this mess was my Wachovia Visa Card. Some time ago they partnered with FIA Card services and it was through FIA that I got the 'direct connect' stuff. A month or two back, Wachovia parted company with them and issued me a new card, and Wachovia made very clear [I even posted about it here. This stuff:

I checked with my bank about Quicken support for their credit card, and here's the "simple" [ahem] procedure they gave me: -------------------------------------------- 1. Log in to Online Banking. 2. From the My Accounts page click Account Download

  1. Select the account(s) from the Account Selected drop-down list [...]

was straight from the Wachovia credit-card support folk when I complained about Quicken support... How're you managing to get them to do direct connect for you?

I've just gotten off the phone with BoA about this. If you have a checking account with them, then you can get set up for direct-connect. If you

*don't* have a checking account, then you can only do web-express connect. This would be OK *except* web-express-connect _only_ gets you a copy of your last statement, which for me isn't good enough. [I do a couple of quicken-checks a week to keep an eye out for any anomalous activity on my card. -- and as with other Quicken functionality, it lets me be lazy.. instead of entering transactions by hand as I incur them [UGH! :o)] I do downloads often enough that I can identify [and categorize, etc] the transactions as I get them]

Hmm, I got the card in July 2008. I don't remember how I set it up, I think I created the account then clicked "Activate One Step Update". It asked for the financial instition. I chose "Wachovia Bank", entered my ID and password and said "I found Visa card 9999-9999-9999-9999, Pick a Quicken Account" and it's worked fine ever since.

There is one strange thing about Wachovia. I have a checking account, a savings account, a HELOC, 3 CDs and the Visa. All are updated via One Step Update. The 2 bank accounts and the HELOC are all with financial institution "zWachovia". The CDs and the Visa are with "Wachovia Bank". But I use the same ID and password.

The other weird thing is that Wachovia still sends me a paper statement for my Visa card every month. For all the rest I get an eMail that points me to their web site where I can view my statement online. I asked about emiminating the paper statement but they said they can't do it.

zWachovia is the former First Union account BEFORE the merger with Wachovia.

You're right. I've had that account for 20+ years. Originally it was a local bank which was bought by First Fidelity, which was bought by First Union.

Still go to the same old building on Main Street and see a lot of the same faces.

CitiBank has 2% cash back cards, amoung others, and is free direct connect. CapitalOne as 1.5% cash back and no foreign exchange fees, is express web connect which is indistinguishable from direct connect in performance as far as I can tell.
