New Version of Quicken - Old Files

I am currently using Quicken Deluxe 2006 and am thinking of updating to the latest Quicken (2013??). Will I be able to open my 2006 files with the new version?

I don't think so. I believe the oldest version Quicken 2013 will read and convert is Quicken 2007.

The only way you can get to Quicken 2013 is a two-step process: first convert to some in-between year, then convert that to 2013.

I believe that QW2013 will read and convert your QW2006 data files.

And if Q2013 can't convert your Q2006 data, it will be because of data corruption.

So you might want to make a Quicken Copy of your Q2006 file and Validate that Copy (do this before installing Q2013). If Q2013 can't convert your regular Q2006 file, you can ask Q2013 to convert the Validated Copy.

--- from the Quicken website - since I was curious too...

If you are converting from a Quicken 2003 or older, it may be necessary to use an intermediate version in order to safely convert your data file. (more info). Does this affect me?

This is not something you'll have to do whatsoever if you are using Quicken

2004 or newer, or any version for the Mac.

But let's say you are currently using Quicken for Windows 2001 and want to upgrade to Quicken for Windows 2013. You will want to install Quicken 2004 first (the intermediate version) so your file can convert properly to the newer format. Once your file has been properly converted, then you can install Quicken 2013 and convert your file again. It's like taking small, careful steps instead of one giant leap.
