TaxCut Deluxe gives you "free" e-file with a rebate. TaxCut Deluxe also gives you a free state and no rebate on the program (up $10 from last year). However, I still get the price increase because I live in a no-income tax state. With TTax I got a free upgrade to Q06 Deluxe and a $10 discount from Staples.
At Costco yesterday I saw TT Deluxe with free state and a $30 rebate on Quicken Basic for $32.99. Don't know how the state thing is handled. Last year you had to submit a rebate.
Here's an update on TurboTax Online vs. CD. This year TurboTax Online will do returns for up to 3 states, and you can transfer into TurboTax Online from a return that you prepared with the CD version last year.

That's interesting. While on a trip to FL a couple of days ago, I bought the TTax Deluxe/Q06 Deluxe bundle because I thought I might miss the sale if I waited until I got back home. (I live in NC with a state income tax).
Yesterday I received an email from Staples Easyrebate saying my rebate was invalidated because I didn't meet the requirements. The store personnel verified the SKUs met the requirements before I bought.
I've emailed Staples Easyrebate and am waiting on a response. I don't know what the problem is.
Here's their email to me:
***************** Thank you for submitting your rebate request(s) through Staples Easy Rebates. We have received rebate information for the following product (s):
Select Quicken Products
Unfortunately, the requirement(s) for the promotion were not met, and your rebates have been invalidated for the following reasons(s):
All required products were not submitted.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for shopping Staples!
Did you buy them both on the same receipt? They have to be to get the $30 rebate. I'd call the SER folks, probably easier than waiting for an email reply.

I did in fact call customer service and they fixed it for me. I think it probably became complicated by the fact that Staples overcharged me and they returned Q and then rebilled and credited my card for the new purchase. It must have changed some numbers somewhere.
Yes, if you returned Quicken and then bought it again, then it will definitely mess up the rebates, because Staples' Easy Rebate system sees returns and invalidates the rebate. I do not see how they could have overcharged you for Quicken Deluxe given that the $30 would have come off automatically at the register.

Actually, they overcharged me for TT. It was marked as $34.99 and they charged me 39.99.
But TT and Q were on the same charge slip... so I don't know how they sort that out when it comes to rebates and the EasyRebate system. Fortunately, the call to CS appears to have fixed the issue.
Right but you said you subsequently returned and rebought TT. And that gets flagged in Staples' system as a return and would cause the $30 combined rebate to be rejected. They should had returned and resold both of them to keep them on the same receipt.
I had so many problems with TurboTax in 2003, I had use an accountant to do the return. In 2004, I switched to TaxAct Ultimate Bundle - less than $20 for Federal and State plus e-file for Federal.
I had one question, about an obscure 1099-S form that I did not know what to do with, they answered my e-mail query in less than 24 hours.
I don't ever plan to go back to TurboTax.
I am not affiliated with TaxAct.
