How can I select what expenses Quicken will use in making up a pie chart. I want to excclude certain large but uncontrollable items such as taxes, leaving the things I can control such as groceries, entertainment, etc.
Select the pie chart and then click on "Customize". That will let you select the categories of expense you want to include. In my case, I create a "Tag" for each expense incurred. Most expenses are tagged as "Living Expense" so I base my chart on "Living Expense".
Excluded from "Living Expense" and tagged as "Extradordinary Expense" is anything that would last 3 or more years such as pool pump, new furnace, septic tank, front walk, back yard patio, new driveway, etc. I also exclude taxes from the chart.
