ummmm perhaps as each detailed credit card transaction is entered assign it a major category such as meals, groceries, clothing etc and then run various reports on the categories maybe?
If you are NOT downloading the transactions into Quicken then use Excel to summarize your data. Use rows to represent the various categories you want to report and just enter the amounts in the cells. Then post the totals using the split feature for your payment to the credit card company.
Google with "quicken credit card transactions categories" as a search argument and read John Pollard's post on Feb 24 2002, for example. This question comes up about once every two months....
