Installed Q10, zero transactions shown

I just installed Q10 and the program converted 49,000 items. Now my register shows absolutely no downloaded transactions (Which actually cover a number of years). My Main account shows no transactions at all although just this morning before the new installation, it was normal with the banks check marks. (It seems like the word register is no longer a defined term because I would like to look at my register and don't see a way to do it). It does show a list of 5 transactions due and my Citicard account displays normally. At one point during the installation it seemed to be asking for the telephone number of the bank from which it had previously made a download. Help.

I assume you had a previous version of Quicken. Which version?

I also assume that you did a validate using your old version of Quicken and have several copies of the data file(s), such as pre-validate and post- validate. What did the validate action show in terms of errors?

If you didn't do a validate, can you go back to your old version and still do it?

I sent a reply which got lost I guess. I got my transactions back either by one of a) pressing on the teeny-weeny little down arrow next to Bill and income reminders or b) doing a cold boot I don't know which. Furthermore I still can't download transactions. I get a message that "your financial institution has rejected your request because "as we told you before Q2005 is out of date" after I had already changed to Q8 (And got a download) and just yesterday registered Q10 which they acknowledged.

This Q10 is infested with bugs or other handicaps. I printed a sales tax report that did not fit on one page, the dollar values were pushed over to page 2. Of course there are columns I could give up and get the valuable Dollar data back but I don't see any way I can delete or move anything; their "properties" tab is worthless. From experience I know you can't change anything in the preview box and I don't see any with other way to view it.

On top of that they invite you to edit transactions and I needed to change the date from 3/31 to 4/1 to bring an early payment into the proper month-I couldn't do it-it essentially won't let you do anything to a transaction in editing. (The item did have a check mark).

There is no book that accompanies the disk but they sure as heck should have a list of oopsies. For example if you set the period of the report to this month for example the balance is very strange and only by doing some investigation you find out that in those cases they set the initial balance to zero. Meanwhile there are some heart gripping moments-where did it all go? They should come right out and say if you're looking for the view tab to do some sorting, it's gone but you can click on the top header for any column and sort that way. All this boasting about new features is for naught if they are going to tinker with all the knobs and buttons without including some mode for retraining us. The true measure of a program is to what extent you can use it without thinking hard, and certainly without having to do your own experiments. Q5 Was far more straightforward and I wish I had it back because the downloaded checkmarks are no substitute for old-fashioned reconciliation, because they seem to have a number of phantom entries and omissions.

gee - have you tried moving between various Microsoft versions....

XP vs Vista / Win 7 or Office / Word 2003 vs Office / Word 2007

I find TurboTax and Quicken to be the LEAST involved with these gauntlets...

I agree. AFAIAC, Office 2007 was the worst. Vista isn't great, compared to XP, but tolerable. Win7 is much better. But in each case there is a rather severe learning curve ...

yeah - for Office 2007 - since I don't use it as much as I used to... I found an add-on that gives back ALL the old menus !

Hi, Han.

I never used Office 2007 much, but you probably are talking about the Ribbon user interface, which continues in Office 2010. As you may know, the Ribbon UI is also a major feature of Windows Live Mail 2011 (aka WLM 15.*, aka Wave

4), which I use - in spite of some major flaws. I hated the Ribbon at first, but then I discovered the QAT (Quick Access Toolbar). After a few days of customizing the QAT, I actually began to like this new UI. I can put just about any command from any ribbon onto the QAT, giving me one-click access to actions that otherwise would take several clicks. And then I can hide the Ribbon, giving me about 4 more lines of screen real estate.

Like just about every update since moving from my original 1977-model TRS-80's Level I BASIC to Level II BASIC and then to TRS-DOS and DISK BASIC, there is a learning curve, some steeper than others. But that's the cost of progress, as I have learned, and I'm sure you have, too. And I agree with you and ps56k that migration to new versions of Quicken and TurboTax are generally less traumatic than updating operating systems.

Man, that TRS-80, and its cassette recorder, really brings back memories!

Thanks, RC! I guess I have to put more effort into customizing the QAT ... I still have the (expl del) ribbon bar up there ...

Now I am retired too, I am not as quick to upgrade MS software anymore.
