Q10 Ctl Find needs check register, baffling

This 2010 version of Quicken is maddening. Take the simple task of finding a check number: I am looking for a check number 1000. Since I couldn't find it with control find as detailed below I founded it by scrolling up and down.

Now I have the register(?) open with check 1000 in plain view.

Just as a test, I enter Control Find check number 1000. What I get is a window that says "Find works with an open register or check screen. Activate one of these windows". I have no idea how to do that, since these terms have not been defined for me, evidently and quite apparently, this is not an open register even though I think it is. There is a tab on top that says "transactions" next to the account name. Does that mean that the list of transactions is not the register ? it looks like the register. I am seeing what I'm looking for and it instructs me to go elsewhere to some undefined location because I don't know where the check screen is or what it is. Have there been any patches for this? No problems in Q2010 or Q2009.

You sure you have your checking account register open? I too (like Han and John) have no problem with this; I didn't even know it existed (CTRL - F); if I wanted to find a check number, I did it in other (longer, as it turns out) ways.

With my register open using CTRL-F (true, I am using 2011, not 2010), and say show me check number xxxx exact , it brought me right to it.

using Q2009 - I bring up my "checking account" click on the Transactions tab - which lists all the checks....

There is a FIND sub-menu item here - click and it brings up the Quicken Find dialog box which has the dropdown for the field name & search argument.

This is the same dialog box that displays with Ctrl-F

YUP - as always, it's baffling.....

And if you use it to find a certain check number, does it work? (Actually, in Q2011 I am not seeing a 'tab' for transactions, but I honestly can't remember what happened between 2009 and 2011; that might have been part of the UI that Intuit always seems to want to change from release to release to 'improve' things). But what is so baffling (assuming what you are looking at does work for you too).
